AN IMMUNOLOGICAL STUDY IN ASPELNIC PATIENTS

Document Language : English
Abstract : The present study was carried out to determine the immunglobulins IgG, IgM and IgA inboth saliva and serum of 20 male splenectomized patients and 10 control subjects for comparison by using the single radial immunodiffusion technique The results revealed that: 1-Significal increase of the salivart IgA in asplenic which plays a role in an effort to compensate the decreased phagocytosing mechanism and impaired immune systems in these patients (serum IgA did not show any significant change) 2-Significant increase of salivary IgG and IgM among asplenic patients may call upon the second line of defense against the antigenic action of bacterial plaque 3-Significal decrease of serum IgG and IgM confirms that spleen plays an essential role in their production and adding a consequent decrease in phagocytosing mechanisms capable of destroying bacteria 4-A recommendation for optimal oral hygiene care and an early treatment of any gingival or periodontal disease should be carried out, also an advice for using prophylactic antimicrobial therapy with any oral manipulation to avoid bacteremia must be provided.
