Abstract : Condylar process fractures traditionally, have been managed by maxillomandibular tixation. However. in recent years with the advent application of the principles of open reduction and rigid internal fixation in maxillomandibular trauma management. condylar process fractur~s are treated in the same manner. Seventeen adult patients in whom a total of 23-condylar process fractures wen: treated by open reduction and rigid internal fixation using bone plate and screw tixarion through extra oral approach. Six months postoperatively the ave.rage maximal mandibular opening was 43.5mm and the average lateral mandibular movements was 6.5 mm. Two patients showed TMJ pain and clicking after treatment, while in one parient. a slight weakness of the margmal m:mdibul:.lr nerve was encountered at the end of the follow-up period. Occlusion was adequat~ except m 3 patients who needed selective grinding to alleviate premature contacts.
