Abstract : An attachment-retained unilateral removable partial denture may not be a common prosthodontic treatment; however clinicians may resort to it in some situations. The problem of the amount of displacement of the abutment teeth and the prosthesis, as well as, the magnitude 01 of stresses induced within the prosthesis and the supporting structures in such cases has yet to be further assessed. Therefore the main goal of the present study was to evaluate the effect of splinting. tissue contact and denture base material on those two factors, as regards, the prosthesis, the attachment and the supporting structures, by the aid of3-dimensional finite element analysis. the study involved six designs. Two cantilevered designs (one with a 2-unit splint {design I} .and one with a 3-unit splint {design II}) and four tissue-supported designs as follows: one with,an acrylic denture base and a 2-unit splint {design III}, one with an acrylic denture base and a 3-unit splint {design IV}, one with a versacryl denture base and a 2-unit splint {design V} and linally one with a versacryl denture base and a 3-unit splint {design VI}. Out of the six designs design III seemed to be the most favorable as regards both, displacement and stress values.
