Abstract : -thalassemia is a genetic disorder of hemoglobin synthesis; resulting in altered function of hemoglobin molecule and aberrant erythrocyte: morphology. In the present study we sought to evaluate the clinical and radiographic oral manifestations in a group of Egyptian B--thalassemic children. A total of 75 B -thalassemic children of both sexes (mean age of 9 years) were examined clinically and radiographically. They were compared to 75 selected normal and healthy children matched for the same sex and age. Plaque accumulation (PH) and amount of gingivitis (01) were determined. Dental caries scores for primary (d.e.f.s) and permanent (DMFs) were determined. Radiographic examination included panoramic, periapicals and bitwing films. Dental age was determined using Demerijian and Goldstein method (M2, MI, Pm2, Pm2).
