Abstract
:
The prevalence of dental caries has declined and the pattern of its occurrence has changed during the previous two decades clue primarily to the use of fiuori ies. However, the occlusal surfaces of the dentition have net been provided caries protection 1:(;'the extent afforded smooth surfaces. Pit and fissure sealants represent a highly effective and technically practical procedure for reducing the incidence of occlusal dental caries. Furthermore, reduction of occlusal caries by using pit and fissure sealants would substantially improve the dental health of the population and reduce expenditures for treatment of dental disease.
