Saudi Specialty Program in Pediatric Dentistry

 idea started by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties to develop a specialty certification board in the Saudi Dental Society and for the urgent need to specialists in the field of Pediatric Dentistry, where a high proportion of caries among children in Saudi Arabia and the small number of consultants in this area .

Was already accepted the first installment in October 2005 were accepted three students of the program and was accepted two students for the academic year 2006-2007 and the duration of the program is four years of training involving short courses distributed over the whole period of study and upon graduation qualify output for the classification of children's teeth Medicine Consultant by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

The Dr. Abdullah bin Saeed Al-Mushayt Musharraf Division of Pediatric Dentistry and Chairman of the local jurisdiction to the testimony of the Saudi Pediatric Dentistry in the Western Region and a member of the Central Committee to supervise the Office of the Saudi Specialty Program in Pediatric Dentistry faculty to follow up the needs of students during the study period

    College dean decree No. 422/TS/420 on 11/6/1420 H to form the committee of Saudi Specialty Program (Saudi Board) so that it can be the nucleus of higher studies stage in the college where Saudi Authority of Medical Specialties has chosen College of Dentistry as an accredited center for training in Saudi Arabia. The college has participated in preparing for this program through the temporary preparatory committee for about two years.

This study began with three male students and three female students on 24/9/1420 H corresponding to 1/1/2000 G in dental correction specialty where it extends to four years. This type of study aims at preparing students through theoretical study and clinical training for professional development, promoting technical skills and sound scientific application in dental correction specialty.

 

Program Objectives:

1. Planning and offering dental care to a large category of patients through treatment and dental correction in the regular or complex technique.

2. Acquiring efficiency and confidence in all branches of dental correction (Fllings, Endodontics, Fxed Prosthodontics, Dental Implant) as they are considered an integral part of general dentistry.

3. Enhancing the skill of taking decision when diagnosing, working out therapeutic plan and evaluating therapy result.

4. Having knowledge of up-to date developments in the field of dentistry and practical administration.

5. Getting in touch with experienced people in the medical field, and understanding their way of organization.

6. Acquiring experience in teaching and research to develop clinical knowledge.

 

Saudi Board of Orthodontics

College dean decree No. 241/TS/422 has been issued on 29/2/1422 H to form the committee of Saudi Specialty Programs in orthodontics that belongs to Saudi Authority of Medical Specialties.

This program consists of theoretical and clinical studies extending for five years. It the end of this program, the graduate gets Saudi fellowship in orthodontics. This program aims at graduating distinguished orthodontists for developing professional performance and sound scientific application in orthodontic specialty in Saudi Arabia.

Program Objectives:

  1.    Providing developed knowledge of clinical skills to provide orthodontist patients of simple and complex cases with the required care.

  2.    Acquiring competence and confidence in the way of dealing with patients.

  3.     Enhancing the ability to judge cases in terms of diagnosing, working out therapeutic plan and evaluating therapy result.

  4.    Having knowledge of up-to date developments in the field of dentistry and practical administration.

  5.    Getting in touch with experienced people in the medical field, and understanding their way of organization.

  6.     Acquiring experience in teaching and researches to develop clinical knowledge.

Saudi Specialty Program in Oral Facial and Maxillary Surgery

    Oral, facial and maxillary surgery is one of specialties in dentistry. It includes diagnosis, surgery and treating cases related to oral, facial and maxillary soft and hard tissues. Duration of training in this program is five years designated for improving and developing this profession in Saudi Arabia. This program provides students with knowledge and skill that qualify them for working in this field. Training in this program includes teaching, basic sciences and clinical knowledge, and developing surgical skills. This program also paves the way for trainees to learn deeply fundamentals of surgery through performing and assisting in different types of operations.

 

Program Objectives:

1. Realizing knowledge in the science of oral, facial and maxillary surgery.

2. The possibility of inclusive diagnosis.

3. The ability to observe urgent cases and giving them first-aid.

4. The ability to perform diagnosis, therapy and operations in the field of oral, facial and maxillary surgery.

5. Developing the skills of conducting researches.

6. Developing relations and communication with patients and colleagues.

7. Having high standards of professional ethics.

Saudi Specialty Program in Prosthodontics

    The scientific council of dental medicine and surgery has agreed in the meeting held on 25/10/1426 H corresponding to 27/11/2005 to introduce Saudi specialty certificate program in dental replacement within Saudi Authority of Health Specialties.

This program has begun in the western province in the College of Medicine, King Abdul Aziz University with admitting the first group of students in October, 2006. the first group consists of four male students while the second group consists of three female students. Duration of this program is four years.

Program Objectives:

1. Providing basic and developed knowledge for graduates to care for dental replacement cases.

2. Acquiring competence and confidence in the way of dealing with patients.

3. Graduating dentists capable of examining, diagnosing, working out therapeutic plans of simple and complex replacement cases for all categories of patients including cases of fixed fixtures, movable fixtures, dental plantation as well as artificial replacement of oral, facial and maxillary cases.

4. Having knowledge of up-to date developments in the field of dentistry and practical administration.

5. Getting in touch with experienced people in the medical field, and understanding their way of organization.

6. Acquiring experience in teaching and researches to develop clinical knowledge.

7. Acquiring experience in the laboratory aspect of cases.

Saudi Specialty Program in Endodontic

   Saudi Authority of Medical Specialties has chosen the College of Medicine as ac accredited training center in Saudi Arabia. This program consists of a theoretical and clinical study that extends to four years. The graduate gets Saudi specialty certificate in the end of this program.

 

Program Objectives:

1.     Providing basic and developed knowledge of clinical skills to provide patients of simple and complex cases with necessary care.

2.     Acquiring competence and confidence in the way of dealing with patients.

3.     Enhancing the ability to judge cases in terms of diagnosing, working out therapeutic plan and evaluating therapy result.

4.     Having knowledge of up-to date developments in the field of dentistry theoretically and practically.

5.     Acquiring experience in teaching and researches to develop clinical knowledge.

 

Program Nature:

          This program is one of the programs of Saudi Authority of Medical Specialties belonging to the Ministry of Health. It is concerned with professional and clinical training of the specialty of treating the dental nervous system. During four years of this program, students study intensive courses for learning operative and non-operative treatment of this specialty.

 

Program Structure:
A)   Clinical Training:

It is concerned with microscopic clinical training for all diseases of dental nervous system.
B)   Academic Practices:

They consist of discussion seminars of researches, books, classical studies as well as other courses in basic sciences.

 

Admission Requirements:

Bachelor degree from a recognized university as well as passing the authority exam.
