The College of Dentistry was established, including its four departments, at King Abdulaziz University by a Royal Decree in 1985 (1405 AH). The first cohort of students consisted of 9 males and 8 females and graduated in 1992-1993. The philosophy of the faculty is to establish a distinctive scientific and academic institution capable of providing students with the highest international quality standards for teaching, training and scientific research, which positively reflects on addressing the needs of the community through high quality treatment and prevention services. The faculty principles are based on using the latest scientific methods in teaching, using advanced scientific curricula and conducting rigorous scientific research in order to graduate world-class dentists. In order to achieve these principles, the faculty pays special attention to its students, from enrollment, under the supervision of faculty members whose principles are derived from the teachings and practices of the Islamic religion. The faculty, through its 10 scientific departments and the University Dental Hospital, seeks to utilize all the necessary facilities to provide the appropriate environment for the provision of effective and high standard clinical and teaching services. The faculty also has postgraduate programs in various disciplines offering both masters and doctorate degrees. In addition, the faculty offers bachelor and bridging programs in supporting dentistry specialties. The faculty is currently working on achieving accreditation from the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA) and the Commission on Dental Accreditation Standards (CODA), after receiving the academic accreditation from the Association for Dental Education in Europe (DentEd). The faculty also offers many outreach programs and services to the community. Believing in the importance of these programs, it has adopted a mobile clinic to reach remote locations and nearby villages to deliver educational, preventive and treatment services in order to promote and improve oral health in the community. The faculty administration is making great efforts through periodic performance evaluation to raise the level of education and treatment services in order to keep up with the rapid global changes and developments so that the Faculty of Dentistry at King Abdul Aziz University will always be in the lead.
